DANGEROUS AND INSANITARY BUILDINGS POLICY

Join the conversation on proposed amendments to our Dangerous and Insanitary Buildings Policy

Background

Our Dangerous, Affected, and Insanitary Buildings Policy was reviewed in 2023, and we are now seeking submissions to make necessary amendments. These changes aim to ensure the policy remains effective in keeping our community safe, addresses current building safety and health concerns, and stays in line with relevant legislation.

Amendments to the current policy include:

  • ·        Confirmation of our priorities when performing functions related to the Policy.

  • ·         Adjusted monitoring and enforcement systems for buildings issued with s124 notices.

  • ·         Wording adjustments to fit legislative requirements of the Building Act 2004.

What is this policy about?

This Policy helps to reduce the potential risk posed to residents by dangerous or insanitary buildings and sets out a clear framework for how we will manage unsatisfactory building conditions. We are also required to have this Policy under the Building Act 2004.

We invite all residents, property owners, and stakeholders to share their thoughts on the proposed amendments. Your feedback will help shape a policy that continues to protect public health and safety.

You can learn more and share your thoughts by reading the Policy and Statement of Proposal below, and submitting your feedback through the link below.
